How to Detox on a Lemon Diet

Even if we lead health-conscious lives, there are toxins in the air we breathe and the food we eat that can lead to permanent damage to our physical and mental health over time. The lemon detox diet is designed to not only help you lose weight, but to flush the build-up of unhealthy toxins and chemicals from your body.

    Prepare one week before you start the lemon detox diet program by cutting back on the amount of regular toxins you put into your body. Reduce your caffeine intake, cut back on the number of cigarettes you smoke, and cut out as much junk food as you can. This will prepare your body in advance, making some of the side effects easier to cope with.

    Set aside a period of at least three days during which you will have minimal outside stress. Outside stress can make a rigorous, fasting diet even more difficult, so you may want to do this diet during a holiday weekend.

    Mix two tablespoons of lemon juice and two tablespoons of maple syrup into a 10 oz. glass of water on the morning of the first day of your diet. Drink six glasses of this mixture throughout the day.

    Drink glasses of plain water in between the detox mixture, but do not eat anything else throughout the day. The water, lemon juice and maple syrup mixture will flush the toxins from your body.

    Repeat this process for up to three days, drinking only plain water between glasses of lemon and maple syrup water.

    Slowly ease yourself back into eating regular food on the fourth day. Don't overdo it, as this may cause you to feel nauseous and sick.
