Colon Cleansing Diet Plans

A colon-cleansing diet can be an effective way to clear your body of toxins. The colon--part of the large intestine--controls waste management. When a colon is bogged down by waste, toxins enter the bloodstream and liver. By getting rid of excess waste, many people have benefited from better skin, healthy digestion and a reduction in kidney infections.

Fiber

There are two types of fiber beneficial for colon cleansing: soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber is important for adding good bacteria into your system. Foods such as strawberries, beans, peas, brown rice and barley are sources of soluble fiber. Insoluble fiber clears out the digestive system and eliminates waste. Insoluble fiber is found in oats, cabbage, beets, turnips and brussels sprouts. For a colon-cleansing diet, consume at least 20 grams of fiber per day. This breaks down to five servings of vegetables and six servings of whole grains daily.

High-Chlorophyll Foods

High-chlorophyll foods, or green foods, include wheat grass, alfalfa, barley grass and spirulina. Chlorophyll in these foods repair the tissues in the digestive tract, and the body's cells more effectively eliminate toxins. Eat several servings of this type of food per week to restore digestive health.

Bacteria

Eating a diet of processed foods with refined carbohydrates depletes your body of healthy bacteria. The sugar found in these foods promote the growth of the bacteria candida albicans, which causes yeast infections. Replenish your body by eating foods with good bacteria, such as yogurt, kefir and miso. The acidophilus bacteria found in yogurt may destroy yeast.

Water

Drink at least 80 oz. of water daily to flush out your system.
