Diet Dinner Ideas

Coming up with diet dinners that are flavorful and satisfying can be a challenge. But sometimes, all it takes is replacing the fattiest ingredient in a classic recipe with something healthier. Consider adding more vegetables to your dinner and replacing red meat with turkey to make healthy diet dinners. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Turkey Meatloat

Instead of using ground beef, use ground turkey breast to make traditional meatloaf dinner. This will save about 10 grams of fat and about 100 calories an ounce.

    2 lbs. ground turkey
    2 egg whites, beaten
    1/4 cup chopped onion
    1 garlic clove, minced
    1/4 cup ketchup
    1/4 cup oatmeal
    1 tbsp. Italian seasoning
    Pinch kosher salt
    Pinch fresh ground pepper

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and spread evenly into a nonstick baking pan. Bake in a 350-degree preheated oven uncovered for 40 minutes. Serve hot.

Stuffed Peppers

Taking the ground beef out of traditional stuffed peppers and replacing it with ground turkey breast saves you calories and fat. Use brown rice instead of white rice to get more fiber in your diet. High-fiber foods make people feel fuller longer.

    4 red peppers
    1/2 lb. ground turkey breast
    1/4 cup cooked brown rice
    1/4 cup chopped onion
    Pinch kosher salt
    Pinch fresh ground pepper
    2 cups tomato sauce

Mix the turkey, brown rice, onion, salt and pepper in a bowl. Divide this mixture evenly into each pepper. Pour the tomato sauce on top of the peppers and bake uncovered in an oven preheated to 350 degrees for 50 minutes.

French Onion Chicken Crock Pot

Using fat-free ingredients and boneless and skinless chicken is another way to make diet dinners even more healthy. By using a crock pot, you'll have more time to take a walk or run to burn more calories.

    2 frozen chicken breast, boneless/skinless
    1 cup fat-free mayonnaise
    1 cup fat-free sour cream
1 package dried French onion dip
    1 cup chopped mushrooms

Place all ingredients into a crock pot set on high. Mix the ingredients and cook for six hours or until the chicken breast falls apart.
