Natural Colon Cleanse Recipes

The colon is in charge of cleansing and eliminating waste from the body. When it doesn't work efficiently, waste can putrefy in the intestines and toxins are reabsorbed back into the body. This can cause all sorts of diseases and health problems. Common symptoms include fatigue, headaches, stomach aches, constipation and diarrhea, poor immunity and skin problems. Cleansing the colon can enhance health and improve energy and vitality.

Cleansing

    The lemon honey cleanse fast has a strong cleansing effect on the colon. It involves combining a teaspoon of honey with the juice of half a lemon and a pinch of cayenne pepper. The combination is added to a cup of purified water and then twelve cups of the combination are consumed daily. This fast can last anywhere from three to ten days.

    Psyllium husk and flax seeds form a gel like substance in the colon and as it is evacuated from the colon, is sweeps all toxins and debris out with it. Both psyllium husk and flax seeds absorbs water and need water for healthy evacuation so it is important to drink a lot of water when consuming either of these. They can be purchased in powdered form from supermarkets and added to cereals, juices, shakes, smoothies or water.

    Vegetables and fruits have a powerful cleansing effect on the body. One way to clear the colon is to do a fruit and vegetable fast. This can also involve drinking juice and soup too. A fast like this can be done for anywhere between three to ten days and longer for those who have the consent and supervision of a doctor. Twelve cups of fluids, whether water or juice, must be consumed each day of the fast. Always speak to your doctor first, before undergoing any fast.

    Probiotics are the healthy bacteria that line the intestinal walls, also known as intestinal flora. It is recommended that after you have completed a fast, you replenish the lining of the intestines with probiotics. These can be found in yogurt containing live cultures or they can be bought from health food stores and drug stores in a high dose capsule or tablet form.

Herbs

    Detoxifying teas are a common way to keep the colon healthy. These can be taken with your regular diet and assist with digestion. Marshmallow root, fennel and licorice root are all herbs that assist with cleansing and aiding the intestines. Add one teaspoon of any of the herbs to a cup of boiled water. Allow it to steep for three to five minutes and then strain and drink. One to three cups can be taken daily to aid in cleansing the colon.
