Colon Cleansing & Weight Loss

Colon cleansing is a wonderful aid when it comes to weight loss, owing to the removal of toxins and mucus wastes that accumulate in the body and around the colon walls through the consumption of junk food. It is of significance to clean the colon prior to going on a diet in order to facilitate weight loss. A clean colon, free of toxins, sustains a healthy metabolism, which, in turn, hastens the process of losing weight.

Ideology

Mucus builds up in the colon by consumption of improper foods that are unable to be completely digested by the body, producing toxins that pass on to the blood stream (autointoxication). Weight loss is achieved by cleansing the colon of these mucus wastes around the walls and flushing them out of the body.

Average Weight Loss

Though the relation between colon cleansing and weight loss is a speculative subject, it has been inferred that colon cleansing, on average, reduces about 10 to 15 lbs. This is because it draws out the excess mucus, plaque and fat that sticks to the walls of the colon when one consumes fatty foods like French fries, chips and such instead of more digestion-friendly fruits, berries and nuts. The bulge caused by the excess weight is thus reduced, creating a stomach that is more flat.

Importance of Colon Cleansing

The colon plays a vital role in the proper functioning of the digestive system. When the colon is clogged with fecal matter, mucus wastes and toxins, the body is ill-prepared to follow a diet and reduce weight. The body tends to feel tired quickly, and the energy required for weight-burning exercises is lacking. A clean colon, on the other hand, duly absorbs the necessary nutrients and vitamins from food, enabling one to stick with a diet and workout routine more easily.

Means of Cleansing

There are two primary means of cleansing the colon: herbs or supplements and colon irrigation. Natural herbs or supplements can be taken in the form of enzymes, powders and teas. Such items can be easily purchased from a health store or supermarket. Herbs or supplements can usually be taken by mouth or administered through the rectum. These have the potential to force and expunge mucus wastes and toxins from the system.

Colon irrigation (high colonics) is a viable for option for those who have severe clogging of the colon. This procedure is generally administered by a therapist that and is quite similar to an enema. With colon irrigation, the colon is literally flushed by pumping water through a tube into the rectum, around the abdomen, and the water is then drawn out along with waste through another tube. As uncomfortable as it may seem, it involves less stress than an enema.

Considerations

While colon cleansing, one may need to have regular access to the bathroom, since it may take a few cycles to get rid of all the waste accumulated inside. Hence, allotment of a time free of other commitments is paramount.
